Hazardous Cupboards - What happens if there is a spillage.

One of the main reasons we have hazardous cupboards is to prevent hazardous substances from spilling and causing harm to anyone. There are many things you have to take into consideration when there is a spillage or a leak. Taking extra care and having the correct hazardous cupboard is vital in this situation.

Having a hazardous cupboard is a very important product and one that not many workplaces feel they need. You can read up on this in many ways and we have done blog posts in the past so please check them out.

Hazardous Cupboards

So, what happens if there is a leak or spillage. All our cabinets and cupboards are fitted with integral sumps. This does make things simple when there is a leak as the hazardous substance is simply collected and contained. For some this might seem like a weird thing, but it is part of the Coshh regulations and needs to be your focus. Believe it or not, this has saved lives especially when dealing with very harmful substances.

The reason why the sump is integral is because then the person that is using the hazardous cupboard cannot access the substance that could cause them harm. This also eliminates them from being able to cause anyone else harm if the substance is then not contained. Like if the sump was removable.

The hazardous substance can be contained and removed from the sump using spill kits and high absorbing products to prevent the liquid being open and moving freely. This said if there is a major spillage we always advise replacing the cupboard. After all you don’t want to be the one responsible for causing pain or damaging someone’s skin. Its better to be safe than sorry.

This concept is the same throughout the range and doesn’t differ at all from cabinet to cabinet. We have seen it all too many times where hazardous cupboards are an after thought and they really are not. It is vitally important that the substances are treated with respect and with the appropriate preclusion.
